QCDs, DAFs, & Other Ways to Give
Annual Fund - our yearly fundraising target, this supports the library's operating and upkeep every year.
- Make a direct contribution by check, Venmo, or online here
- Recurring Donor to provide consistent, predictable funding year-round. This can be set up online on the Hubbard Donation Page.
Memorial or Honorary Gifts - Designate the Hubbard Free Library as recipient of a donation in memory of a deceased family member or friend (Memorial Gift). Gifts can also be made to honor a special person still living or to recognize an occasion (Honorary Gift). Memorial or Honorary Gifts can be made by check or online.
Matching Gifts
Your gift may be eligible for a matching contribution from your employer. Check with your employer to see if they offer a charitable matching gift program to learn more about this easy way to increase your donation.
Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) - If you are 70 1/2 or older, you can make an income tax free Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to the Hubbard directly from your traditional IRA account.
If you are 73 years old or older, a QCD can count towards your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). In this case, making a QCD can reduce your taxable income whether or not you itemize deductions. Want to learn more? Contact your financial advisor or IRA custodian for more information.
In 2026, more than 10% of Hubbard donors used a "QCD" to support the Hubbard. Donors reported that the tax advantages of QCD's made it possible to give more to the Hubbard while reducing their income tax. A win-win for the Hubbard and the donor.
State of Maine Employee - If you are a State of Maine employee, you can support the Hubbard Free Library through your yearly Maine State Employees Combined Charitable Appeal (MSECCA) contributions. It is a thoughtful, and seamless, way to help the Hubbard, and you receive the same tax-deductible benefits!
When the MSECCA campaign begins each September, you can simply designate (write in) the “Hubbard Free Library” as a 501(c )(3) recipient organization, along with following information:
115 Second Street
Hallowell, Maine 04347

Name of Contact: Annemarie Jirkovsky
Donor Advised Funds (DAF). A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a simple and flexible way to support the Hubbard Free Library. If you have a donor-advised fund you can recommend a grant to the library at any time.
A DAF is a type of giving program that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to easily support your favorite charities. An increasingly popular charitable vehicle, DAFs are an excellent way to both simplify your charitable giving and facilitate your strategic philanthropic goals.
Securing a Legacy to the Hubbard
Leaving a Legacy Through Your Will - A gift through your will or living trust is a meaningful way to provide lasting support for the Hubbard Free Library. You can designate a specific dollar amount, percentage of estate or a portion of what remains after other bequests. A bequest can help ensure that the Hubbard remains a vibrant community resource for generations to come.
Give the Gift of Stock - Donating appreciated stocks or other securities can be a tax-efficient way to support the Hubbard Free Library while realizing important benefits for yourself. A gift of appreciated securities may allow you to support the library while potentially avoiding capital gains on the appreciation. Your financial advisor or tax professional can help you determine whether a gift of stock is right for you.
